2019 collection

Thursday, May 16th at Aria ...... A Goldstein Museum of Design benefit

Surrounded by the constant onslaught of unwanted but oddly desired intrusions by the media, news, politics, all the noise- we see many brave souls stepping into the center ring, attempting to tame the lions.  With her 2019 collection, Joynoelle is paying homage to the women putting themselves in the middle of this circus.

An evening in three parts

Join us at 6 o’clock in Aria’s main room where you will see 5 capsule collections by Joynoelle’s recent atelier students. Their work will be displayed in vignettes throughout the gallery. Enjoy this pre-show event with a cocktail or glass of wine and meet the designers. You’ll also experience an interactive Goldstein Museum of Design section where you’ll reconnect with or discover this important local resource.

At 7:30 Joynoelle presents her 2019 collection: The Ringmaster. Inspired by the strong women stepping into the center ring of the circus we are living in today. Seen within Aria’s evocative and expansive interior, the showing promises to be a visual feast.

Immediately following the runway show, join Joynoelle and The Goldstein Museum of Design as they host an after-party. The Ringmaster collection will be shown in a live gallery setting while you enjoy circus-themed performers, revisit her student collections, and enjoy the beautiful architecture of Aria.

About joynoelle

Joynoelle is the signature line of Minneapolis based designer Joy Teiken. The Joynoelle ready-to-wear and bridal pieces are handmade and hand sewn in her south Minneapolis atelier. Every garment is individually cut, sewn and accented to ensure the highest quality and attention to detail that Joy expects.

A self-declared "lake-kid,” Joy attributes much of her creativity to spending childhood summers at her family cabin on Eagle Lake, Minnesota. Those months spent with no TV didn’t bother her and her brother: there was so much else to do and explore. The northern lake lifestyle continues for Joy today, now in the company of her son, Noel, and a big Golden Lab named Star. The lake still provides fun, inspiration and renewal.

In 1989 her mother, Jane, was dying of breast cancer. Responding to her predictable hair loss from chemo and the upcoming wedding of her brother, Joy fashioned a beret out of a vintage dress -- her first foray into the design world. Two weeks later she died, and today remains a guiding presence for Joy.

Before starting Joynoelle in 2003, Joy received her Masters in Art Education and taught high school art for many years. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana, Africa from 1993 to 1996, where she learned that living simply and having a daily purpose is the surest route to happiness.
